    Can these pumps lose prime

  • @user-fd1li1kn8z

    After discovering the location of six lateral lines (no thanks to the septic company), I attempted to flush. However, there is only an off/on switch for my pumps. The pumps switch is always in the "on" positions. So: Do I turn the pump switch off for a few seconds and then back on? I did this and nothing came out of the pipe. Is this a good sign or did I do something wrong?

    So pardon my ignorance? but why have a filter if you spray what it stops back into the tank? isnt that what would happen if you didnt have that nasty filter stopping it from going into the tank and making you clean it out ???? and how often are you cleaning that thing. I know its been years since you wrote and posted this video. so anyone who may have the answer to this question PLEASE respond. I am very new to septic systems.

    Is it normal for the tank to make that dripping water sound? I read somewhere that the tank should not make any sound but in the video that sounds just like my septic system. This is all new to me so I just want to make sure things are in proper order.

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 3 года назад

      If your system has a pump chamber like this one it would be a normal sound. It is the water falling into the pump chamber from the septic tank, just a bit of flow coming through when we did this video. Best of luck with your system they are easy to forget about when all is going well!

    It should be cleaned over the solids side.

    I am about to perform this clean out on my system. I have 8 lateral lines. Not looking forward to it as I have to dig the ends up. I don’t have vertical access pipes in place to reach in and unscrew the end of the pipe. I may put some in place this time for future cleanings.

  • @brianrobertson3545

    How often should this be done?

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 5 лет назад

      At the very minum once a year. For best peace of mind I would clean it, then clean it a month later and see what it looks like if it looked like longer was ok wait two months and reevaluate. Like most things there is no right answer for everyone. Hope this helps!

    on a pressure system how long does the effluent can run during one cycle? is it possible to have a clogged field and not showing any wetness?

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 6 лет назад

      If your pump is running and drawing down the pump chamber I would suspect the pump first. It is always possible that the line is broke or plugged but less likely than a bad pump.

    • @dennisnoone7427
      @dennisnoone7427 6 лет назад

      i opened one lateral and the flow was good, the pump was running for like 15-20 min. and the level barely dropped.

  • @HungNguyen-sb1yu
    @HungNguyen-sb1yu 7 лет назад

    When you washed the filter, you actually let the dirt go right into the pipe, then why do you need the filter in the first place? I thought you are supposed to wash the filter somewhere else, not in the tank.

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 7 лет назад

      Like Allen Worst mentioned below it is probably better practice to wash it out over the inlet side of the tank versus the outlet side...however you do it the filter needs to be washed out on an annual basis at least or you may end up with a backup. This one had been several years so there really wasn't anyway to keep every thing out of the pipe. It is hard to see, as for some reason the person taking the video didn't want to get to close while I was spraying! Thanks for watching and good point!

  • @allenworst

    Nice job. I love the focus on lid replacement. I would consider cleaning the filter over the inlet side of the tank to insure the solids sprayed off the filter are not carried over and into the pump tank.

    The only interesting part was the end, if we go through a drought the grass with our lateral lines ends up dying before the rest of the yard. It is worth doing something else with that area unless you have irrigation.

    I don't understand this at all. Why are you flushing it? There a pump in it?

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 8 лет назад

      +Tom Renfro over time sludge and slime can build up in the 1" pipe, so this is something that only needs to be done every so often Annually is recommended, but I suspect that most systems survive with out it being done very often!

    • @tomr1961
      @tomr1961 8 лет назад

      Hi Curtis, Thanks for answering back. I see what you are saying. It is a bit in general and matter of fact way.. Saying that, I have never heard of a pipe sticking out of the the ground for the purpose to clean out your lateral of your septic tank. How dose this help your laterals. Those are way under ground? Tom

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 6 лет назад

      Tom, if I redid the video today I would do it different for sure. These pipes are at the end of each drain field line in this system a total of 6. By flushing it helps keep the small holes .25" in this case, clear. Still not something that needs done very often. To be clear this only applies to a pressure system, that is designed like this one, which is a common design in our area.

    Hi. I was wondering if you could show me how to turn off the audio alarm. The setup I have is exactly like the first one in the video. The alarm constantly goes off whenever it rains and I can't silence it every hour.

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 8 лет назад

      +Andrew Concepcion Interesting! First try to figure out if rain water is getting into your pump chamber if it is stop that source. Assuming it isn't rain getting into the pump chamber I would look at the panel next. Should be a number for the manufacturer in the panel to help diagnose any issues with the panel itself. Good luck!

      @MrYoudigit 8 лет назад

      +berkferker I apologize for the long wait to reply I wasn't getting the notices! I hope you have solved this issue by now! If not give the manufacturer a call or your installer sounds like a timed dosing panel with the on off float not shutting down the system.

    hi i have an alarm going off not sure if its hi or low level when i manually drain it shuts off could this mean theres a problem with the pump or the float?

    • @MrYoudigit

      +minnie pearl Sounds like the pump is working on manual I would assume the floats as a starting point.

    Great video - Have you ever seen a panel where the "Auto" Feature just stopped working? I have a duplux system with alternating pumps made by Liberty Pumps. Both of the pumps run fine in Manual mode, but neither will run in auto. I have tested all of the floats with an ohm-meter and they all responded properly. However, the box doesn't seem to be getting the signal. Also, I can't get the green light on the circuit board to light up (checked fuse but its fine). I did find a bad breaker in the box when first diagnosing the problem but it has since been replaced and auto still doesn't work.

    • @MrYoudigit
      @MrYoudigit 8 лет назад

      +Jeremy Beer I apologize for not getting your question until a year later! Curious what you found, sounds like you did all the steps that point to a bad panel. Was that the case?

    • @06192JB
      @06192JB 8 лет назад

      +Curtis Wray yep - bad panel. they didn't make that panel anymore so would have had to get a whole new system - quoted me $2000. decided to install 1 new pump with a manual float which would by pass panel. can still turn on other pump manually in case of emergency. fixed and running well for the last 18 months for $300.
